Washington DC is laid waste. In Paris, the swastika flies from the Eiffel Tower. More than two billion are dead from the polar caps melting. This is the future former Green Beret Eric Dane, with the help of Amelia Earhart, sees through the mysterious gates unless they can prevent it.

Battles across time and space. Massacres and noble sacrifices. Creatures and events mankind considered legends are coming to life. All in one terrifying climax with the fate of the world hanging in the balance.

In 1863 Robert E. Lee leads the South’s last chance at victory over the North. The two armies meet at Gettysburg, neither side quite aware why they are drawn there. For the result of Pickett’s charge will not just determine the war, but the fate of the planet on a scale only a handful of priestesses from another time understand as they connect this battle with the Little Big Horn in 1876 and the Zulu territory in Africa in 1879 as British Forces prepare to face the Zulus at Isandlwana.

In the present, Dane must work with Earhart to make sure the massacres and deaths from those battles will not be in vain as they try to stop the dark Shadow coming through the gates from consuming our world.

It has taken me several years, but I finally finished the Atlantis series by Bob Mayer. Overall 4 stars for the entire series. I loved it. I have read several other Bob Mayer thrillers, to include the first 3 Area 51 thrillers, and plan to start on book 4, The Sphinx. I have about 32 of his books on my Kindle. Also read and enjoyed a few of the Green Beret stories. I enjoyed the history aspect of each book, especially the last couple of books (to Include Assault on Atlantis). I liked the ending with Lincoln and his wife Mary, but could have used a little closure with Dane and the other characters.

Battle for Atlantis eBook Bob Mayer Reviews

well after so many "episodes" in book length there is a lot of repetitions of things already said in previous books of the series but justifiable , I would guess if someone is not reading all the books in sequence. I enjoy the technical/science and historical descriptions but feel it was too obviously a clever way to lengthen every book in the series and trap the reader in buying more books to get to the finale. For that reason I give 3 stars. writers so skilled should give stories that have little or no need at all to have void or dead spaces filled with lengthy battles and sub- historical sub-stories. It is a clever scheme but do not take the readers for being easy fools to mislead... I finished the series but I will not try another series from this author again as I know too well that it will be a very clever way to manipulate me in buying more. I love stories but writers are getting far too lazy now that they have access to so much knowledge...I know everybody needs to earn a living but in stories writing it should not be at the expanse of real creativity or new ideas for format that will only bring more money... In the long term you are losing a sure source of income in me as I will now refuse to buy any of those books unless they stand alone or do not go further than 3 tomes in the sequences. Do not think I do that for this author only, I do that to all best sellers writers that seem not to know how to make a good story without using other historical or biographical facts to lengthen their thin plots or scenario...
This Atlantis series is the first I have read by Mr. Mayer/Doherty/Donegan and, while I found much of it enjoyable, it was far, far too long.

For me, the most artful portions of the books were the battle descriptions. The author has developed the ability to convey a sense of the unfolding action "on the ground," so to speak. I felt present most of the time yet not overwhelmed with words. These portions of the books were quite well done. While I know little to nothing of some of the historical events, I am hopeful they are grounded in the facts as we know them today. I also enjoyed learning a bit more about the earth's geology; again, I am hopeful this is accurate.

As a six-book series, however, the length was probably the most serious issue. These books needed a hard-nosed editor (a Sgt. Major, as it were) to help the author better tell his story. At most it should have been a trilogy; even better, a long book with three parts. One annoying problem that resulted from the length was the author's decision to repeat extensive sections across several books so that each book could stand on its own. But authors of other series have found ways of managing this problem without being obvious. A single book could avoid this issue completely. Furthermore, not all of the many scenes really were necessary; in fact, sometimes it would have been more compelling and easier to follow if the events in a given setting were allowed to run their course instead of being broken up repeatedly. A few times, the protagonist (Dane) was set up to ask questions simply to provide a way of introducing a long description of technical information. This was awkward and broke the flow of the narrative when it occurred. An objective editor would have lined this out.

Other issues I found the so-called "in between" places hard to grasp and I was never completely convinced they worked very well, particularly when it came to people being able to eke an existence. And time is supposed to pass in a timeless fashion? The Valkyries' choice of weapons seemed sometimes to be arbitrary; why not zap any and all who were getting the upper hand with the Narnia-like "turn-them-into-stone" ray gun? A minor but annoying tendency was to switch back and forth between the metric and the English system of measurements ... sometimes virtually in the same paragraph.

So, parts of this series were highly enjoyable, compelling, and illuminating. But it should have been much, much shorter. Perhaps the author with several names could revise this series and publish a seventh book in the series, but lucky number seven would be a far briefer retelling of the previous six. I'd buy it.
Battle for Atlantis - its a battle of humans against the mysterious enemy, battle stretching across time and numerous miltidimentional worlds.
That was the last book in Atlantis series and I recommend reading all Atlantis books in order otherwise the plot might be a bit confusing at times.

The story is wonderfully complicated combining historical and present time on multiple parallel worlds, those worlds being stripped over millenia of resources, people, air and water,so those worlds finally collapse under the onslaught of the ancient enemy - Shadow.

The price to pay for salvation is high but all remaining worlds pull everything they have left for the final battle.

After reading a few of Bob Mayer books I realized that I need to buy book after book to read each story from beginning to an end so mesmerizing they are and impossible to put down until the last page!
