Earlier this week I read a story of a 73 year old female artist who died from a tick bite from something called Powassan virus, which is rare. I thought it might be interesting to learn more about the diseases from ticks and found this new book from a great non fiction writer who I enjoy following. In her new book she explains which ticks carry Powassan virus and a dozen other diseases, many of which I had never heard of. We all see stories on Lyme disease but learning in "Tick-Borne" that ticks carry viruses and toxins in addition to bacteria was eye opening. It seems more bacterias are being identified each year carried by ticks.Product details

A quick read with lots of to the point information.
Great overview of the variety of illnesses and complications that can occur from tick bites. Living in a rural area, several of my friends and family have been affected by Lyme disease and related ailments, gaining more knowledge about these has become a priority for me.
As someone who suffered from a tick-borne disease I found this little book severely lacking. There is much better information on the CDC website and pamphlets one can download for free.
Tick-Borne is a fascinating read on what is happening in the world of disease from these parasites. I learned that Tularemia is something that nightmares are made of. One of the results of a tick bite being this new Alpha meat allergy was especially interesting and scary. I live in the south and that tick is down here. It's my hope they find a cure before children get it and can't ever eat meant again.
As the owner of a pest control service firm in South Jersey, this book presented some interesting facets to the importance of proactively protecting ourselves against tick-borne illnesses. I not only recommend this well written resource to anyone who spends time in the great outdoors, but to pet owners, and parents too. Knowledge is power, take charge and safeguard!
This is an eye opening look at the serious problem of ticks and the diseases they carry in America. Learning about all the health issues that humans get was interesting. The educational section on dogs encourages veterinary testing if a tick is found. I learned of toxins coming from ticks that Vets can help cure. Timely book on a problem that is getting worse each year.
